Self Tapping Inserts

Self Tapping Threaded Inserts are single piece, precision turned parts with both external and internal metric threads. These self tapping inserts allow permanent threads to be produced in a wide range of components and materials. They eliminate the need for close tolerance holes required for tapping into the base material, damaged tools and low productivity - they need no special installation tool nor the time consuming process associated with installing a wire thread insert.

Following are the specifications for Self Tapping Brass Inserts:
Types of Self Tapping Brass Inserts
  • Slotted Self Tapping Threaded Inserts
  • Three Hole Type Self Tapping Threaded Inserts
Threading Available for Brass Self Tapping Inserts
  • B.S.W., B.S.F., B.S.B., B.S.P. & B.S.P.T as per British Standard Whitworth Form
  • N.C. & U.N.C., N.F. & U.N.F., N.P.T & N.P.S., N.S., N.E.F. etc. as per American National Form Threads
  • Metric, NPT, BSP, PG or specified
  • ISO Metric (MM Threads)
  • BA Threads
  • DIN Standard
  • GB Threads
Features of Self Tapping Brass Inserts
  • Cylindrical metal bushings with internal and external threads.
  • Specially designed to cut their own threads as they are being driven into a drilled hole.
  • Provide permanent wear-resistant threads in a wide range of materials, from tough to tap, high strength steels to brittle plastics.
  • Self tapping insert eliminates the need for pre-taped holes.
  • The insert should always be inserted slotted end first as the slot provides the cutting action to tap into the material.
Application of Self Tapping Brass Inserts
  • A universal type used in plastics, wood, non-ferrous metals and resins.
  • Ideal for high volume applications in thermoplastics.
  • Mainly used in plastics and rely on the radial pressure exerted by the screw to lock the insert into position.
